frequently asked questions
1. Do I have to audition? Nope! We welcome all singers who want to join our community — all you have to do is sign up when registration opens. Many of our members sang when they were younger and are happy to come back home, some members have music degrees or teach professionally, and some are joining a choir for the first time!
2. What if I can’t read music? We offer printed and digital versions of our music for each cycle, along with audio tracks of each voice part. Some members enjoy the opportunity to sight-read, while other singers prefer to learn by rote (by ear) or listening to those around them. Whatever method you use to learn the music works fine!
3. How much does it cost? Rather than paying annual fees, our singers pay for each individual cycle they participate in. Each cycle includes approximately 6-8 rehearsals and a final concert, plus the music. For new members, the cost is $155; for returning members, the cost is $140. New members receive an “official” choir league chair at their first rehearsal.
4. Do you have an attendance policy? We're all adults here, and we all have busy lives. If you can't make a rehearsal or two, there's no need to tell anyone. We trust you to learn your music and do what's best for you! That said, if you know you're going to miss more than two rehearsals during a cycle, we ask you to consider waiting for the next cycle so another singer can take advantage of your spot. Our cycles usually fill up! One more thing—we ask that you sign up for either Monday or Wednesday rehearsals at checkout and commit to your rehearsal day, but if you ever have a schedule conflict, you’re welcome to attend the other rehearsal that week so you don’t miss practice! No need to tell us, we just love your commitment to getting your reps in.
5. What if I don’t drink? While we've stayed true to our nickname as the "happy hour choir," drinking is by no means required! Whether you're sober Septembering, teetotaling, or just don't feel like it, you are as welcome as anyone else! Plus, our wonderful bartenders also offer non-alcoholic options to quench your thirst.
6. How often do you rehearse? Each cycle includes approximately 6-8 rehearsals, on either Monday or Wednesday night (you will sign up for one of these nights). Cycles also include a sectional, where you can gather with your voice part cohort for extra practice.
7. Am I guaranteed a spot in future cycles? Legacy admission isn't our thing. Whether you're returning for your second cycle or seventeenth, you're always required to sign up for a spot in the cycle. These days our cycles do tend to fill up very quickly, so we suggest you make a plan to register early.
8. Can I sign up with friends/partners? We are working on a way to have one person register multiple singers in one order, and we will happily let you know when that is available!
9. What are your Covid protocols? Because singing is a high-risk transmission activity, we took great care during the height of Covid to stay safe by masking and even rehearsing remotely. While we no longer require these measures, you are always welcome to wear a mask if it makes you feel more comfortable. If you're ever feeling sick with any illness (not just Covid), we ask that you stay home to recover.
10. What’s your refund policy?
We get it—sometimes plans change. If you find you’re unable to continue after the first rehearsal, we’re happy to offer a refund for the remaining rehearsals, minus a $25 administrative fee.
After the second rehearsal, refunds are only available for personal or family emergencies, like medical issues, caregiving needs, or unexpected job loss. In those cases, we’ll pro-rate your refund as fairly as we can.
